Unlike their hollow counterparts full cone nozzles provide a finely atomised solid cone spray pattern. This is perfect for any application that demands uniform liquid distribution and complete coverage of an area or zone.

How does a full cone nozzle work?

Full cone nozzles use either a precision-engineered insert or the action of turning the liquid flow through a right-angle to create a solid cone of spray (no hollow core). The resultant spray pattern gives the spray’s characteristic uniform coverage.

Different types of nozzle

Two variants of this nozzle type are available: the standard (axial flow) full cone type nozzle and the tangential full cone nozzle. The former uses an internal vane to create a solid cone of spray. The design of the vane also helps to form a constant pattern width across the spray. Tangential full cone nozzles turn the liquid supply through 90°. This enables a spray pattern without the use of the internal swirl core – for enhanced clog-resistance.

Both are available with different spray angles and flow rates. This makes it easy to achieve a perfect match between the nozzle and the most demanding process requirements. There are even dedicated nozzles for specialised processes (such as the proprietary Cone L Series nozzle developed for continuous casting cooling purposes).

Advantages

Axial full cone nozzles offer a highly-uniform liquid distribution, a wide range of flow rates and many different spray angles (typically ranging from 70° to 110°. This type of nozzle can be supplied in stainless steel, brass or other materials. Tangential (or right-angled) versions offer enhanced reliability and uniformity of spray area, non-clogging performance and stability of their spraying angles regardless of the change in pressure with time (transient pressures). Spray angles for these typically range from 65° to 120°.

Applications

Full cone nozzles are suited to a wide range of industrial process applications. For example, demanding cleaning applications will use a narrow, high-impact round spray, whilst rinsing fragile foodstuffs would use a light impact wide-angle spray. These nozzles are also suited to very different flow rates: anything from fractions of a litre per minute to multi-thousand-litre ‘deluge sprays’. The tangential flow nozzles are particularly appropriate for spraying liquids containing a high proportion of suspended solid matter, or for use in fire suppression.
